Stop Searching for Happiness Outside of Yourself

We’ve all been there before. You finally get what you’ve been wanting and waiting for, whether it’s a new job, a new car, or a new outfit. And yet, after the initial high wears off, you find yourself back to feeling the same way you did before. Why is that?

Happiness comes from within. It’s an internal state of being that has nothing to do with what’s going on around us. That’s why we can be surrounded by people and still feel alone. Or we can have all the material possessions we could ever want and still feel empty inside.

No one else can control or take away this power of choice from you. You are the only one who can choose to be happy. And the good news is, happiness is a choice we can make every single day.

How to Be Happy Every Day

1) Acknowledge the good in your life.

Our reality is filled with impermanent moments. If we let ourselves depend on these moments for happiness, we will live with a constant sense of longing. Instead of dwelling on what’s wrong in our lives, focus on what’s going right. Make it a habit to acknowledge at least three things you’re grateful for each day. Doing this regularly trains your brain to scan your life for the positive instead of the negative!

2) Practice mindfulness

Mindfulness is about being present in the moment and not letting your thoughts run away with you. When you are mindful, you are not controlled by your emotions or thoughts—you are aware of them but not identified with them. This doesn’t mean that your emotions or thoughts are wrong or bad, they are just impermanent states that come and go.

Practicing mindfulness can help increase our overall happiness because it allows us to detach from negative thoughts and emotions instead of getting bogged down by them . Mindfulness also helps us appreciate the good moments more because we are fully present in them instead of letting them pass us by without truly experiencing them .

3) Accept yourself for who you are

Also, when you are secure with yourself, you can build better relationships with your friends and family, which in turn can increase your happiness . So how do you achieve this self-acceptance?

By accepting others , even if they don’t meet all of our expectations . We all have quirks and flaws and that’s what makes us unique and special. Trying to change ourselves or Others to fit some unrealistic standard is a recipe for misery . So celebrate your individuality and surround yourself with people who love and accept you just as you are .

It’s time to stop searching for happiness outside of yourself . True happiness comes from within and it’s a choice we make every day.  By living intentionally and scanning your life for gratitude, practicing mindfulness, accepting yourself and, accepting others will help lead you down “The Path to True Happiness”!
